Heron Hill Winery Hires Barry

Barry Tortolon has joined the winemaking team as co-winemaker at Heron Hill Winery in Hammondsport, NY. Tortolon will work with Mark Patterson and collectively oversee the complete production of Heron Hill wines.

Tortolon was trained and educated in California where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Enology and Chemistry from California State University at Fresno, additionally he is a graduate of SUNY Morrisville with a food science and technology degree. His experience includes working at the California Agricultural Technology Institute and the Italian Swiss Colony Wine Company in California. In the Finger Lakes, Barry was an instructor at Corning Community College in the Enology and Viticulture program and has work experience with Glenora Wine Cellars, Fox Run Vineyards, Red Tail Ridge Winery and as winemaker for Rooster Hill Vineyards for the past 13 years.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to be part of the winemaking team at Heron Hill,” says Tortolon. “It feels like a great fit and I look forward to having a hands-on presence in the cellar & laboratory, along with the management Heron Hill’s portfolio of wines, all while continuing to live and make wine on beautiful Keuka Lake!” Tortolon is a lifelong resident of the Finger Lakes and lives with his wife and two sons in Dundee, NY. Heron Hill Winery’s owners and staff welcome his experience, proven ability, and friendliness to their team.

Since 1977 Heron Hill Winery has grown cool-climate vinifera grapes, including Riesling, and made elegant world-class wines on a slate hillside overlooking scenic Keuka Lake in the Finger Lakes region of western New York. Heron Hill Winery was chosen as one of the ten most spectacular tasting rooms in the world by Travel + Leisure magazine! In addition to the magnificent vaulted Tasting Hall and Winery overlooking vineyards on Keuka Lake, Heron Hill also has tasting rooms on west side of Seneca Lake, and overlooking Canandaigua Lake in Bristol.
