How Sweet It Is
April 11, 2008
Dessert wines are finally making their way into the glasses of American wine drinkers. Much loved in Europe for centuries, these treasures are to be sipped and savored either alone or paired with a simple dessert. The concentration of flavors found in dessert wines provides a sensory experience that is not to be missed. Many of you Heron Hill fans may already know this, but our own winemaker Thomas Laszlo is renown for his dessert winemaking expertise. From luxury icewines in Canada to the rare and famed Tokaji Esszencia in Hungary, he has honed his skills as a world class dessert winemaker, earning ratings as high as 99 points in Wine Spectator for his wines. His newest offerings from Heron Hill include the 2006 Ingle Vineyard Late Harvest Riesling Reserve and the 2003 Ingle Vineyard Late Harvest Cabernet Franc. Both of these wines are very limited production and showcase the depth of Thomas' skill. For more information on Thomas's background read his bio page.
