SKU: Arctic Clone Riesling

Arctic clone- planted based on its cold hardiness to be able to handle the sometimes-harsh winters of the Finger lakes. The clone however also happens to tent to retain more acidity and be leaner while also showing fairly exotic fruit. The wine and being on a plateau make this the coolest portion of our already cool Ingle Vineyard making for racy, age worthy and food friendly wine. Wonderful Aromas of pineapple, floral, persimmon and key lime characters. The palate is both crisp and filling with balanced sweetness and great length.

Wine Profile
Ratings
92 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - Riesling Arctic Clone 2020 – 92 points – drink 2022-2035 - The 2020 Riesling Ingle Vineyard Arctic Clone comes in with 29 grams of residual sugar, 9.75 of total acidity for balance and 11.3% alcohol. This is sourced from vines planted in 2002 as part of their Tasting Room block of Ingle vineyard. The clones were promoted to be more cold-hardy, and they have found them "to retain more perceived acidity," so they often leave the wines as "off-dry and showing more 'green' fruits and less mineral." This is organically grown but not yet certified. Simply gorgeous, the extra sugar here is gobbled up by the bursts of acidity. It finishes with controlled tension and flavor, each battling for control. The excellent balance between sugar and acidity reminds me a bit of those off-dry Mosel wines. The only question remaining, which I keep saying because Heron Hill has a lot of new labels in this report, is how this will age. Fine Riesling ages, and it must do so to justify my enthusiasm. I think it will, but many will certainly have already drunk it on the younger side because it is hard to resist. Some six hours later, though, it hadn't missed a beat.
Vineyard Notes
Part of the two acre Tasting Room block, but the clone is significantly different in style. The block is on the western side of the Finger Lakes on Seneca Point Road.
